    June 2000December 2008 (8 years 7 months)

Joined Andover.net in June, 2000 to help prepare new site NewsForge.com for launch by writing myriad regular expressions to strip news stories from other websites ("NewsVac") before RSS feeds were common or Google News had come into its own.

These technologies obsoleted the regular expressions, but the work continued in sorting user and automated submissions of tech industry news stories, generally pertaining to Linux and open source software for NewsForge.com, Linux.com, DevChannel.org, and ITManagersJournal.com (all now defunct). Was also at times tasked with helping freshmeat.net manage its submission queue of open source project updates and announcements.

Attended regional open source related conferences (Linux World Expo New York and Toronto, Ottawa Linux Symposium, Ontario LinuxFest, KMDI Open Source Conference, PostgreSQL Anniversary Summit, DebConf) and wrote in-depth articles covering their proceedings and occasionally wrote satirical articles about the tech industry.
