I am the executive director for the Bard Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Colorado Denver. I'm a scientist by training who still runs a biomedical research lab focused on ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). I am also involved with a biotech startup.

Beacon Biotechnology, LLC was formed in September, 2006 to develop a new generation of diagnostics that are highly mobile, simple, inexpensive and powerful. Beacon microarray technology will overcome limitations in existing technology allowing introduction of microarray technology into markets such as point-of-care and field applications that are currently difficult, or impossible, with the current microarray technology.

I work with a mouse model for ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis; Lou Gehrig's disease) that carries a mutated gene like found in some people with ALS. My NIH funded research lab is actively seeking the genetic differences between mouse strains that naturally make some mice resistant to developing this fatal neurodegenerative disease.
