My thesis was a reading of the Australian War Memorial in a Freirean framework – as a site for informal learning.
Now that Web 2.0 has become mainstream, the idea of a participatory museum – where the teacher-museum is co-intent on learning with the student-visitor – makes much more sense. There are still organisational cultural barriers to co-creation in most museums, but audience expectations will force the change. Bring it on!
