Taught an INTRODUCTION TO SOCIAL MEDIA class.
CLASS DESCRIPTION: Online communication is changing at a rapid pace. You’ve heard the buzz about social media tools like blogs, wikis, podcasts, and social networking. You may have also heard the buzz about Web 2.0, citizen journalism, and the power of RSS feeds, but you’re not sure what it all means and why you should care. This class will help demystify the tools and terminologies surrounding the social Web and provide several strategies for how to have a presence online, maximize your reach, and track trends. You’ll also learn about the differences between traditional media and social media – including why it’s important for consumers and businesses alike. Social media is affecting public relations, marketing, customer support, product development, recruiting and several other aspects of our personal and professional lives

Hired to build the foundation of a social media campaign that helps promote their independent films. The initial project included the creation of a Facebook Group and a Twitter account - both called FOLLOW A FILM. Within 2 months we gathered over 500 "fans" and "followers" of their first film, ARCADIA LOST - staring Nick Nolte, Haley Bennett - and directed by Phedon Papamichael (W, 3:10 to Yuma, Sideways). These groups are growing every day and the film has not yet been released (completed production in Oct 08).
The goal is to promote indie films using alternative methods that can reduce the reliance on the Hollywood film distribution model - and shift from traditional media movie promotion to new/social media movie promotion.
