Manager of Web Development at CARE
Greater Atlanta Area
Professionally, I started out interested in the economics and policy issues around sustainable development, but landed a teaching job at WSU while a Sophomore that revolved around learning through technology and doing web and new-media design to facilitate that learning. I didn't even know what HTML stood for at that point... But I learned! Now, I've had more than a decade of web development and application programming experience, and am fluent in several programming languages (from Perl to VB to JavaScript and more).
In the last year or so, I've started to move away from being an application programmer into technology strategy and management, which is the direction I'm most interested in going anyway. All that, and the vast majority of my work has been in the non-profit sector, so I can honestly say all my work has been for the greater good of humanity, which is all I really wanted to be able to say in the first place!

Developed client websites, including e-commerce solutions, static informational sites and creative dynamic HTML sites. Development of most sites required the use of ASP (using either server-side VBScript or JavaScript, or a combination of both), client-side JavaScript, and HTML using Microsoft Interdev and SourceSafe. In addition, most sites utilized Dreamweaver in their initial construction. All sites were initially designed using Adobe PhotoShop.
Maintained client websites based on change requests from the client and internal QA, including textual, programming and graphical changes. In some cases, this required significant new development that needed to be seamlessly integrated into the existing client website.
Worked with database administrators and graphic artists in a team-oriented atmosphere.
Assisted Project Managers and clients with project planning and scoping for all projects.

August 1996 — May 1999 (2 years 10 months)
Worked as the tech person and facilitator for the WSU Conferences & Institutes department regarding the Volunteer Management Certificate Program, a national, on-line correspondence course. Responsibilities included maintaining contact with students and facilitating their technical and academic needs.
Instructor of a 2-credit seminar for new or deficient freshman. Trained to operate as a facilitator of learning instead of an "instructor," the collaborative nature of the Seminar Program requires Peer Facilitator to be able to operate in a team fashion and be able to deal with students from both a teacher and a peer perspective. The class constituted university credit, however, so the position included instruction, evaluation and ultimately grading of the students.
Student curriculum included creating a website project from scratch with emphasis on learning and communication through advanced technologies, such as the Web.
