Director of Computing, College of Engineering at Iowa State University
Des Moines, Iowa Area
A 21-year professional in the IT area specializing in change management and leadership in all facets of information technology. Focused on using technology as a tool to drive users to success in order to achieve the goals of the organization.
At Purdue University was an integral part of a small team that implemented the nation's first all-UNIX state-wide extention network, connecting all 105 extension offices. Developed a pre-cursor to the world-wide-web system for the batch delivery of information through low-speed networks.
In the Department of Computer Science at Iowa State University, reorganized the department's computer support operations, establishing procedures, processes, and practices which are still used today. Managed the department's resources through a transition from VAX systems to UNIX workstations/servers and Microsoft Windows domains. Initiated core services such as web (one of the first 100 in the world), networked file sharing, managed backups, authentication, managed printing, remote access, email, and many others.
In the College of Engineering at Iowa State University, built a college-wide support team providing a broad range of services to more than 7500 faculty, staff, and students, including web, networked file sharing, instant messaging, groupware, authentication, disaster recovery, printing, databases, managed 3rd party SaaS applications, streaming media, static media, and many others across an environment of more than 3000 systems that has included Windows, HP-UX, SGI IRIX, Sun OS/Solaris, RedHat Linux/RHEL, and Mac OS X. Led the college's Seamless IT Initiative that consolidated services across 9 separate units into one cohesive computing environment -- completed in under 12 months.
Leadership development, team building, change management, IT visioning, troublshooting skills, technical skills and experiences that range from low-level C programming to high-level systems administration and integration, managerial skills that include personnel, budgeting, procurement, and project management.
