I handled a wide range of responsibilities over the years while watching HostGator grow to over 40+ employees. I learned more than I ever thought possible about the hosting industry, marketing, and management from Brent. I had many roles, I managed the sales department, managed remote staff, trained new staff, and handled a wide range of small jobs that needed to be done right.

March 1999 — August 2004 (5 years 6 months)
I founded Bweeb Inc in 1999 and the companies first project was the development of a website and community to foster emulation and the programmers behind it. We built an active community of emulator programmers who created some amazing code that emulated a wide range of computer, arcade, and console hardware on your computer. From there we expanded to several other niche gaming areas that had lucrative advertising income. These were sold in 2002 in order to take the company in a new direction.
From 2002 to 2005 we founded and grew a web hosting company. During this period we acquired two smaller hosting companies. I was responsible for every aspect of the company and ran it while I was attending university. I sold the hosting company to a Canadian firm in 2004. I learned a great deal about the hosting industry during this period and I sold the company because I received a job offer to join HostGator as vice president.

Myself and two gentlemen from AnandTech started a website focused on collecting and storing hardware and software reviews and sorting them for visitors. The project ended when one of the partners was not happy with the growth rate of the site and pulled all his code from the project. I learned a lot about building dynamic sites and the importance of choosing who you work with.
