Bui Simon's Summary
Former Miss Universe Bui Simon garners great recognition in her native Thailand due to her years of charity work. As a teenager, Simon advocated the Rights of the Child bill in front of the United Nations as Thailand’s Goodwill Ambassador, and she has remained active in children’s rights throughout her professional life. One venture occurred in the mid-1990s when she organized a 10-city charity concert tour, the proceeds of which benefited Thai children with medical needs, food, schools, and housing.
In 2002, Bui Simon developed Angels Wings Foundation International, a philanthropic organization that improves the lives of children throughout Thailand with increased educational opportunities and various forms of aid. Operating under the guidance of Bui Simon, Angels Wings Foundation International meets the evolving needs of the country’s young citizens. Some of its accomplishments include providing residents of Thailand with 100 new homes, new schools, a fleet of boats, and playgrounds following the 2004 tsunami.
A believer in the importance of education, Simon developed the Bui Simon Thai Endowed Scholarship Fund along with her alma mater, Pepperdine University. This opportunity allows Thai college students to visit the United States and study at the Malibu, California, institution. Last year, the school elected Bui Simon to its Board of Regents. In recognition of her efforts on behalf of the nation’s people, King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand awarded her with a Thai Royal Medal of Honor.
The same year Bui Simon created Angels Wings Foundation International, she married Herbert Simon, a businessperson and owner of the Indiana Pacers and Simon Property Group, in a ceremony held at the Royal Summer Palace and presided over by Thailand’s Queen Sirkit. The Simons have two children and raise Bui’s late sister’s three offsprings.
Bui is well-known in Thailand for her charity work, especially her effort to help the victims of the 2004 tsunami where she built 100 new homes, a fleet of boats and new schools. Her Charity is known as Angel Wings Foundation.
