(Online Media industry)
November 2007 — Present (2 years 1 month)
I've been developing online applications in PHP and Ruby on Rails for several years. Now, as a freelance developer, I have helped a number of companies enhance their identity on the Internet.
I have worked with a number of advertising and interactive agencies to ensure their products are well built and deployed on time. Working with these companies has given me a variety of good experience in both front-end and back-end developer. I have rich experience in html/css, javascript ( experience with Prototype/Scriptaculous and Mootools ), MySQL, Ruby on Rails, PHP, Linux system administration, Apache and a host of other responsibilities. I have worked a lot of hours with each of these technologies and there is just too much detail to expand in this limited introduction. Please call or write if you would like more information.
I also have a lot of experience utilizing technology for e-commerce, regularly consulting with companies to enable or enhance their ability to make money via shopping carts and online payment processing.
I have really enjoyed the marketing side of my work and can offer some insight into building or developing a successful online business. I find the marketing aspect of my job really engaging as it also allows me to expand my entrepreneurial skills. I helped launch two companies last year and one offered me partnership to continue with the success they have been having.
More information about the projects I have worked on an specific technologies I have used can be found at my portfolio site: www.brycemcdonnell.com
(Privately Held; Pharmaceuticals industry)
January 2007 — February 2008 (1 year 2 months)
In a medical environment increasingly influenced by technology, clinical research was behind. Sure, clinical research organization (CROs) had electronic data capture (EDC) solutions, but what opportunity did regular physicians have at their own research interests?
The reality is that most private practice physicians have at least a casual interest in clinical research. They do not have tools to help them in this endeavor however. I developed an online tool at www.clinicresearch.com where physicians can obtain information from their patients for clinical research purposes.
I architected and developed the solution using Ruby on Rails. Utilizing several Ruby on Rails security features, the application is HIPPA and 22 CFR 11 compliant. I was also responsible for hosting and managing the application's uptime.
(Hospital & Health Care industry)
April 2004 — December 2006 (2 years 9 months)
I began as a medical assistant, but was quickly promoted to a billing specialist and finally was tapped to start the research department of this six physician neurosurgical practice.
I manged the day to day operations, study development and contract negotiation to ensure the mission of the practice was carried out in each project we undertook.
I also developed a custom software solution for the practice to manage the day to to day operations of enrolling patients in its clinical trials. Written mostly in PHP, it helped make the operations of the department much more efficient and attract new sponsors for research projects.
MPH , Management & Policy, emphasis in economics , 2004 — 2006
I learned a lot of valuable information about health care delivery, financing and certain ways to advance public health. The program was great, I learned a lot about business, epidemiology and what makes people healthy.
B.S. , Biochemistry , 1999 — 2003
Remember when I wanted to be a doctor? Me too, they were spent at Whitworth. I gave it a good shot, but realized I could have more fun in public health. I learned a lot of great information and Whitworth University (Triple U as I call it) like how chemistry works and why people behave in certain ways (psych minor). More than that I learned how to be on my own, grow in faith and make lasting friendships.
