Brian Fitzgerald’s Summary
Spent most of my adult life as an environmental and peace activist, most of it with Greenpeace, where I've been a fundraiser, senior manager, computer geek, ship's crew, cannon fodder, campaigner, press officer, webby, worked in new office development, governance, executive assistant to the chair of the board and executive director. I worked closely with David McTaggart in expanding the organisation into the Soviet Union and the Mediterranean region: i.e. out of the safe North American and Northern European confines it enjoyed until 1984 or so. As part of that effort, I lived in Italy for 6 years.
Over the course of 25 years with an organisation that had some, but not much, name recognition when I started and which today is one of the best known and trusted global brands, I've learned a lot about change management and organisational growth.
I'm a born early adopter. I was lugging around a Kaypro Sewing-Machine-Sized "portable" computer in the early 80s, helped bring email to the organisation in 1985 and drove Greenpeace into early experiments with the internet as an activist tool.
I've lived in five countries, and as a result of a 3 year stint in the UK can no longer spell in my native language.
