Background

Summary

I live in two worlds--Music Librarianship and Composition/Arranging/Performing. Dividing my time between the two (and my outside interests) is one of the most satisfying aspects of my professional life. Managing and working in the music library provides the satisfaction of seeing a unit work together to meet the information and musical needs of the faculty, students of JMU as well as the larger community.

Teaching, creating, and performing music provides a satisfaction of the soul that can be satisfied no other way. In a class of 25 arranging students, maybe a few eyes light up with the realization that they, too can create something exciting and beautiful. Composing and arranging is an intellectual pursuit that I treasure which is why i really like working on repertoire for younger musicians--a musical challenge extraordinaire!

Finally, being copyright coordinator for JMU is a way to keep in touch with the larger community of scholars and students at JMU. The activities, research, and invention here are far more than people know and I wouldn't know it were i not serving in this role
