Founder, Advocate

Spirit of Sedona Outreach

May 2009January 2012 (2 years 9 months) Greater Chicago Area

(Happy to report that with Brenda's advocacy through emails, letters, and phone calls, she made an impact in national and international focus by major animal charities and pet product companies on the need to incorporate pet owner support programs in the areas of food gifts and temporary foster care.)

"When you lose your job, you shouldn't have to lose your best friend too." - Brenda Krueger Huffman

The Spirit of Sedona Outreach is a foundation with the GiveBack organization as seen on Oprah. Donations can be put into this account which will be given to animal welfare charities directly helping families in need to keep their pets. Go to http://www.giveback.org to make tax deductible donations.

Brenda continues to advocate and lobby large pet industry foundations and corporations through the SOSO - a family service outreach within the pet industry she developed - to provide extended charitable services and food to help keep pets in their families during this recession. She recognized a need in May, 2009 that was not being proactively addressed for many families in our country at this most critical time for families with pets on a national level in a significant way.

There remains an estimated 30 million Americans that are unemployed or underemployed even now as we enter the third year of the Great Recession. This represents an estimated 15 million families or more affected by unemployment today.

According to the Humane Society of the United States, there are 39% of US households that have at least one dog and 34% that have at least one cat. Since January, 2009 the Humane Society saw a 20% increase in animals being surrendered by their owners, and the numbers have grown steadily into 2010 and 2011.

Conservatively this represents over one million families that may be faced with giving up a pet due to the economic hardships just in the United States.
