Andrew M. Borene is an attorney with experience in business, law, and government.
Borene has an interest in how individuals and organizations successfully maneuver through the complicated laws, regulations, and national security policies related to doing business and research in an increasingly global marketplace. His primary interests are focused in the areas of Interagency Cooperation, International Trade, Trade Policy, Export Controls, and National Security Law related to cross-border transactions and compliance with extraterritorially applied U.S. government regulation, such as the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), the statutes and regulations of the Office of Foreign Asset Controls (OFAC), and the regulations of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS).
Borene worked for two years as a Public Finance Investment Banker at Wells Fargo & Co. He completed a program in International Development Finance at Harvard University. He also served for more than three years as a U.S. Marine Intelligence Officer, including combat service in Iraq.
Borene served as a Judicial Extern at the United States District Court for the Honorable Judge Tunheim and worked as a law clerk at Bassford-Remele PA, a civil litigation firm. In 2007, Borene practiced law as county criminal prosecutor under the Minnesota Supreme Court's student-practice rule, where he appeared on behalf of the state in felony criminal matters and at civil commitment proceedings.
Borene has experience as a commentator on politics and policy issues, with published Op-Ed pieces for The New York Times, The Baltimore Sun, The Star-Tribune and other publications. Borene has appeared live on CNN, ABC News, Fox News, CBS, National Public Radio and BBC.
Borene is proficient in Spanish. He lives in the Washington D.C. area, and makes frequent trips to Minneapolis, Minnesota.
