K-12 Gifted Education Facilitator/Elementary General Music Instructor
Greater Omaha Area
As an instrumental music major, teaching vocal music and working on a gifted education endorsement, "education generalist" seems to be the most concise description of my experience. I have taught K-12 vocal or instrumental music or both, in some form and grade level since 1986, in four school districts.
Envoy, CHAMPS, Tribes, 6 Traits and Writing Across the Content Area have all been recent components of my general in-district professional development. Conflict resolution, service learning and career development facilitation sessions were attended out-of-district. Working toward my gifted education endorsement has given me an insight into other areas, as well, with the most recent being a course on Socratic Seminar.
I serve on our Building Leadership Team and the School Improvement Advisory Committee. I have a knack for seeing the "big picture" and for finding information resources on any topic to support the needs of these groups.
My future career goals include discovering new ways to continually perfect the craft of teaching, so I can reach more students in whatever area I am assigned. I would also like to explore the avenue of adult education/workplace training, career/life coaching, curriculum development and creative use of technology.
I have strong interests in curriculum development and using technology, especially freeware and open courseware, to individualize instruction and provide personalization of education. I also specialize in helping others discover their strengths and pursue a course of action to capitalize on these strengths. Musically, my strengths are working with individuals and small groups, conducting, and jazz.
