Besides my teaching and training abilities:
►Newspaper design: Design consultant to daily and weekly newspapers for more than 20 years. Training, critiques and full redesigns of both print and web versions are among my services.
►Content development and writing: Award-winning and experienced news and feature writer. Skilled in creative thinking regarding what content – and how best to present that content – might interest the wide variety of audience types my clients have offered me. Noted by clients and colleagues for being able to write about complex ideas in an easy-to-understand way. Created, administered and analyzed several readership studies regarding content, among other issues.
►Corporate public relations experience: As a Senior Associate with J.C. Avery & Associates for three years, as well as on my own as a consultant, I have written numerous business and research reports, created corporate identity changes, designed publications, developed and conducted focus groups, designed quantitative and qualitative research projects, run workshops and training sessions, and made presentations to large and small groups.
►Web site work: Capable of structuring writing specifically for presenting on the Web. Studied and taught web site design and site architecture since 1994, and I have consulted with companies since 1996.
►Personal traits: I am an analytical thinker, but also creative. I hold firm when I believe I am right, but I am quick to take a different direction when presented with solid, new information. I have writing experience in both newspapers and public relations. I love combining my job as a classroom teacher with helping professionals in my areas of expertise -- a great combination that being a university professor allows.
