My training is in psychology, cognitive science, sociology, neuroscience, and management science.
As a researcher, I've studied how people think, act, and behave in social contexts for 10 years. Most recently I've looked at how online social communities enhance user experiences during search tasks (so-called "social search"). The goal of my work is to design systems that better support people's natural social behaviors—during searches or other online interactions.
As a consultant, I'm involved with the betacup initiative (goal: to redesign the reusable coffee mug); I've led field research and design for a "social shirt"; and I'm conducting an ethnography of web developers' and their choice of software development tools.
I'm an active speaker [SxSW ('10), Enterprise Search Summit ('09), CHI ('08, '09), CSCW ('08), Reboot ('08)] and writer [see http://brynnevans.com/papers.html]
