Mehala Balamurali’s Summary
In my role as a teacher, I believe that teacher is not only a person who gives knowledge in a subject or discipline as students assimilate a body of requisite information, concepts, and/or skills. I believe that students should learn thoroughly what should be learnt and having learnt, they should apply it in the real world. Fostering the mastery of the course material and related skills is obviously important. However, of equal or greater importance is the development of more broadly applicable skills such as communication and critical thinking. It really does not matter how much knowledge a student possesses if she cannot communicate her ideas effectively. The same is true if she cannot think critically about what she/he knows and apply that knowledge to new situations.
However, to lead the students to stand according to what they have learnt, I keep me in a position of a guide, a mentor and a model for my students.
