My consultation work concentrates on three industries, medical, financial, and legal. The strengths I bring include: (1) strong writing; (2) powerful research; and (3) an ability to dig quickly to the heart of a matter.
I spent 3 years at White & Case, a global law firm, writing for legal, IT managerial, engineering, and user audiences. I came there as a consultant and was then put on the staff. As the house technical writer I documented programs from their start (providing/editing mission statements, listing project specifications), testing (preparing questionnaires), recommendations (test result reports), release material (user support), and final reports (project completion reports).
My medical writing is the most varied. I wrote a comprehensive report on medical outcomes software used by hospitals. It discussed in detail the problem of standardization of health data, compared features of over 50 different products, and discussed how to select software suitable for the reader’s institution. That project prepared me to work on electronic health records. I also consulted with several large pharmaceutical companies, Pfizer and Bristol-Meyers Squibb. On one Pfizer project I wrote over 150 procedures required to maintain its Brooklyn plant. That work gave me an excellent understanding of the pharmaceutical business. Besides consulting I wrote 2 books for patients and ghost-wrote one on hyperactivity.
Many top financial firms have asked me to document specific projects. Bankers Trust wanted a user guide explaining a new piece of software for recording deposits. UBS needed a series of technical documents supporting their business continuity plan, even if some disaster destroyed their data center. The New York Federal Reserve Bank brought me in to provide a document for their managers on IT security and policy.
Naturally I am experienced in all the major software used to create technical documents: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Photoshop, and Frameworks.
