My latest project is http://creatingcommunityconnections.org a hyperlocal community and citizen journalism website for Chicago. I'm working with Suzanne McBride on this new publishing venture where we showcase student reporters' local news stories and stories from people in Chicago's neighborhoods. We are a New-Voices project, with support from the Knight Foundation and Columbia College Chicago.
I teach Online Publishing and Production and Introduction to Computer Assisted Reporting. My main blog is http://currentbuzz.org and I follow media and tech innovations that cannot help but be "disruptive technologies. I am in ONA, SPJ, AEJMC and Media Bloggers Association. I run a blogger meetup every month in Chicago. I am the faculty advisor for the student chapter of the Chicago Headline Club/SPJ at Columbia College.
I freelance, including writing for Ohmnynews.com so I can better understand citizen journalism and be a postive model for my students.
Before I taught Journalism, I taught interactive multimedia and made CDs before the WWW. In the dim past, I was a grade school teacher and institutional researcher.
