Comptroller at New York City Comptroller's Office
Greater New York City Area
This is a time of unprecedented challenges for our city. As we grapple with a financial crisis that threatens to send the nation and our city into a recession, New York must continue to represent that place where dreams are forged and government faces down its challenges with a commitment to innovation, diversity, and progress.
I’ve always been a fighter. Over the course of three decades, as Board of Education President and as Comptroller, it has been my honor and privilege to fight for the people of New York City – a fight that has continued with my opposition to the mayor’s shameful decision to place ambition over democracy in extending term limits.
Now more than ever New York City needs leaders with the experience to see us through tough fiscal times, the wisdom to balance the development we need with the resources we have, and an unswerving commitment to put the needs of our great city before their own. That is the mission driving my campaign. I hope you’ll join us.
Bill Thompson has nearly three and a half decades in public service on behalf of New York City. Elected as New York City’s Comptroller in 2001 – and again in 2005 – Bill is a proven leader who energetically works to strengthen the New York City Pension Funds, safeguard the city’s finances, and uncover waste and abuse. He has worked to protect homeowners and renters, promote fair wages for working people, preserve and expand the middle class, and provide all New Yorkers.
