Owner
Dog Dish
October 2002 – October 2009 (7 years 1 month)
An upscale retail boutique for pets and pet owners. We built this from an idea (I still have the original note cards) into the largest pet boutique in Green Country.
It was also my playground to try new and innovative ways to engage customers through a variety of traditional and new communication techniques. With the exception of Dog Dish TV (we never could get that off the ground) all the implemented ideas were successful in helping achieve specific objectives.
We sold this business in 2009 not because we were looking to sell but because we were approached by a buyer and the one thing I know to be true - when opportunity knocks you better answer the door.
Highlights included:
Being highlighted by the Tulsa Chamber of Commerce and Mayor’s office as examples of model entrepreneurship via print, radio and television advertisements and public presentations.
Successfully increased sales by more than 15% annually since opening (industry standard is 4.6%) through a variety of successful strategic integrated marketing campaigns.
Creator and author of “Tails from the Dish” a bi-monthly e-newsletter with a 21% read rate (retail industry standard is 6%).
Increased the visibility of Dog Dish through more than fifty-eight coordinated feature stories in local and national print, broadcast and online media.
Co-produced three, sixty and thirty second commercials.
Developed, coordinated and promoted more than seventy-two in-store events for customers to attend with their pet.
Created and implemented a strategic philanthropy plan to streamline incoming requests and maximize the awareness of contributions.
Responsible for development and coordination of all aspects of dogdish.com website, including the transition to a social site which provided customers with the ability to create their own profile pages, upload content, post reviews, blogs, video and images, as well as the opportunity to interact with each other online.
Assistant Vice President of Communications
Bank of Oklahoma
Public Company; 1001-5000 employees; BOKF; Banking industry
March 2000 – October 2001 (1 year 8 months)
Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the bank's corporate internal and external communications including its online publication and annual report.
Assistant Public Affairs Manager
State Farm Insurance
Privately Held; 10,001+ employees; Insurance industry
1992 – 2000 (8 years)
Responsible for the selection, training, development and management of a public relations, public affairs and internal communications division with a budget of $1.5 million.
Coordinated all internal and external messages including executive support, speech writing, weekly executive updates, company newsletters and publications.
Increased overall understanding and awareness of company issues through a successful redesign of a monthly internal publication distributed to more than 2000 associates and a regional Intranet site.
Developed specific loss reduction campaigns through a variety of mediums including news stories, brochure development and public service announcements which resulted in an overall decrease in the number of claims.
Increased positive story placement by 400% in two years through a media campaign designed to build relations with key journalism professionals.
Created a five-year “Child Passenger Safety Education Campaign”, an integrated marketing campaign dedicated to reducing the number of children injured and killed in vehicle crashes.
Developed a team of dedicated public relations professionals to provide 24/7 crisis communication response which resulted in the successful handling of all crisis communications during my tenure.
Enhanced the ability to impact state and federal legislation through an internal grassroots campaign resulting in legislative relations between every legislator, both state and federal, and at least one company associate.
Created and promoted integrated marketing opportunities and tools for the sales division to use in professional marketing campaigns.
