Product Development Chemist

I am responsible for the chemical side of product development for a range of adhesives. I collaborate with manufacturing and marketing to bring new products to market and support existing products.
I believe that different viewpoints and a respect for interdependencies are necessary for an effective business. I blog about ways to improve these skills as I learn about them myself.
My current goal is to build up skills so that I can move into a Product Management position, or something similar, where I influence cross-disciplinary interactions more directly.

(Public Company; 1001-5000 employees; Chemicals industry)

Formulator - I develop the chemical compositions for new products and alter existing products. I make goop in the lab, test it, and see it through to the manufacturing stage. My technical expertise is in moisture-cure polyurethanes and silylated polymers.
Process Analyst - I spend time in our three manufacturing plants, as needed, to scale-up products from the lab, figure out how to improve production from a chemical point of view, and investigate quality concerns.
Technical Service - I work with our technical service representatives to resolve quality concerns and occasionally visit customers.
Project Leader - I've helped guide one product through to a successful commercialization in a "gate" system begun in 2004 and was also the project leader for two more.
Safety Committee Member - For five years I helped keep the processes and inspections up to date.
