When I started at the Clovis Chamber, it was one of the few jobs I'd ever had where I inherited "stuff." In other words, I was taking over something that had been established. This was a novel experience. My position at the Fresno State Winery was new - they gave me a telephone and a notepad. At the California Tomato Commission, I was handed two massive binders holding the marketing plans created by a consulting firm and a set of guidelines for writing the next one.

This is not a complaint! I've very much enjoyed being a self starter. And even though there had been people working on membership before in the Clovis Chamber, I was given great autonomy by Jim Ware, our CEO at the time, to expand, develop, and grow the membership and networking program at the Clovis Chamber. As long as I didn't blow out the budget.

I promptly doubled the number of networking opportunities for our members and the number of new members joining the Clovis Chamber each year.
