Benjamin Straight began his college career at Radford University in Radford, Virginia, where, in 2001, he obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and minor in sociology and consistently appeared on the dean’s list for academic excellence. In 2003, Mr. Straight received his Master’s degree in sociology from the University of South Florida. He also dedicated his time to extracurricular activities that improved his academic standing. Mr. Straight took a job as a teaching assistant two years in a row, from 2001-2003. In addition, he enrolled in a study-abroad program during summer 2000, and lived with a native Costa Rican family in order to enhance his Spanish skills.
Mr. Straight also has a wide array of job experience. From 2005 to 2006, he taught self-designed sociology courses that focused on macro-level social problems coupled with cross-cultural ideologies and comparisons at Pike’s Peak Community College in Colorado Springs. At Pike's Peak Mr. Straight also taught Sociology of Deviant Behavior and Introduction to Sociology 2. From 2003 to 2005, he served as an Assistant Battalion S-2 Intelligence Officer in the US Army, where he assisted in supervising a three-person section. At the University of South Florida, he obtained a teaching assistant position in which he assisted an adjunct faculty in teaching undergraduate students. There he also worked with an Adjunct Faculty in teaching Sociology of the Family. From 1998 to 2001, Mr. Straight worked as a resident assistant and as an assistant resident director at Radford University. For these positions he completed training in conflict management, which involved implementing mediations between residents.
Some of Mr. Straight’s interests include social construction, consumer cultural, classical theory, introduction to sociology, sociology of the family, and social problems. In his spare time, he enjoys working out, investing, reading, and playing video games.
