I am currently a PhD candidate in cancer biology and a medical student at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and the Committee on Cancer Biology. I was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, and its suburbs and received a Bachelors of Science degree in molecular and integrative physiology with a minor in chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2004. I currently reside in Chicago's South Loop neighborhood.
As a graduate trainee under the aegis of the University of Chicago's Growth and Development Training Program and member of the laboratory of Ravi Salgia, MD, PhD, I study the role of receptor tyrosine kinases in the development of lung cancer with the overall goal of identifying and testing the effectiveness of novel therapeutic strategies.
In my spare time, I work extensively with the Office of Admissions at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and produce the Pritzker Podcast, an online radio program focused on educating premedical students and medical school applicants about the Pritzker School of Medicine and the broader process of applying to medical school. In 2009, my role as a student and my work with the Pritzker Podcast were profiled on its website.
I previously served as editor-in-chief of The Learning Curve, the student and resident section of the Medscape Journal of Medicine, which ceased operation in early 2009, and concurrently served as a weblogger for its medical student weblog, The Differential.
