I majored in philosophy at Oberlin but spent most of my time tormenting synthesizers in the college's electronic music studios.
That led to designing sounds for arcade games and Ray Charles's album My World.
I'm the founding editor of Music & Computers magazine and the Desktop Music Production Guide, and have covered music technology for Electronic Musician, Keyboard, MacAddict, MacHome, Make, Maximum PC, O'Reilly, and Productopia.com.
I was also technology editor for Revolution, the biggest launch in music-magazine history, where I designed and produced the monthly CD-ROM.
I'm currently the audio editor of the O’Reilly Digital Media site and on the steering committee for the Interactive Audio Special Interest Group.
The Art of Digital Music, my book and DVD co-written with Kelli Richards, came out in 2005. Electronic Musician called it an "absolute must-read." The Library Journal awarded it a starred review (highly recommended). Music Tech magazine gave it 9/10 stars, calling it "truly entertaining and informative on both philosophical and technical levels." It reached #1 on Amazon in searches for digital music books.
My children's book series, Storycard Theater, won Dr. Toy's "Top 10 Creative Products of 2004" award and two 2008 Parents' Choice awards. My wife and I perform the books and present workshops on their educational benefits throughout the U.S.
Having personally benefited so much from using technology for creativity, my goal is to share that excitement with others. Please visit www.batmosphere.com for example projects.

The main job of the Steering Committee is the administration of the IASIG which includes the following functions:
* keep the IASIG and Working Group mailing lists.
* schedule and publicize annual and semi-annual meetings.
* publicize the findings of the Working Groups.
* review and implement new technologies.

* request submissions of proposals from a member of the IASIG who identifies a significant issue, but cannot rally enough of a response from the GM to form a Working Group.
* act individually as representatives to the Working Groups.
* keep track of the progress of the Working Group and resolve issues brought before the committee by Working Group's Steering Committee representatives.
