In the summer of 2006 my wife Simone and I left the Netherlands and moved to Canada. In preparation for this huge step I managed to turn around my business life completely. For the past nine years I've been employed as a business journalist at the Dutch entrepreneurial monthly bizz and management bi-weekly Brisk. Within three years I made it to the editorial board of bizz. Shortly after I achieved this, it became clear to me that this was not the life I was going to settle for. Although journalism continuously stimulates my creativity, working for a huge publisher like Reed Elsevier can easily be compared to wathever office job anywhere else. Late 2005 I started turning things around, and now I make a good living as a freelance business journalist for over ten Dutch magazines and websites. And I do this from a beautifull spot in Ontario, Canada. On a ten acre farm only three kilometres from the bright and clear waters of Georgian Bay.
My love for Canada started when I was about twelve years old. My mom and dad took our family to Ontario where my aunt Tineke lives with her family. Looking back I can honestly say that this trip made a huge impression. Years went by. In the year 2000 Simone and I visited Canada again. BC this time. We just loved it and couldn't get enough of it. We went there for years in a row. And during wintertime we visited our family in Ontario. In 2004 we decided we would better move there. It seemed inevitable. We first moved to the Western province of Alberta. But due to the oil boom real estate prices started to rise and we couldn't afford buying a pretty little hobby farm there anymore. We packed our bags and went to Ontario again. After seven weeks we were able to buy our beautiful property near Georgian Bay with more than enough space for our four Bernese mountain dogs to run and roam around.

As a business journalist I'm pretty much allround. I wrote and write about management, leadership, HR, and lots about marketing & sales. Nowadays most of my articles zoom in on topics like online marketing, e-business and internet strategies. I write a lot about Web 2.0 trends too. I truly believe that the impact of all this user generated stuff and customer participation will be enormous in the next few years.
Furthermore I do a lot of work and writing about migration.
