I'm an old code monkey, hacking on keyboards to slice and dice data and information since my first Commodore VIC 20, on to PL-I on the IBM mainframe, through HTML 0.0 and on to Linden Script. A New 60's Generation-isto, I now prefer exploring the amazing possibilities of Knowledge Networking with a dynamic group of 'networlders' that include partners and colleagues from everywhere and everywhen.
In the past two years, I have launched into most facets of the Web 2.0 and 3D social, collaborative and virtual networks. Some are silly and others are stimulating but there seem to aspects of each that have real value for business, academia and government.
I have enjoyed these studies, and am ready to apply them in my day job. Civilian government in this country is Information. While we have made large inroads into the delivery of that Information via the Web, now we must take the technology to a new level, and in a radical way.
Interactive communities and virtual collaboration will provide the context for continued progress of human knowledge and commerce. What's around the bend now? Ask me, and I'll tell you. For me, music and movies interpret the mythos of our human existence - are the literature of our world. Web 2.0 and 3-D are the cuneiform of our worlds that give us the tools for sharing knowledge, which is never out of fashion. The best movie sequel ever made, 2010, sums it up nicely, "Something wonderful..."

July 1990 — Present (19 years 5 months)
I love my job(s). Being a gadget geek, with a background in communications and psychology, I have had quite a blast working hard (with too little support) with a great group pf peers. Becoming a Fed was a definite 'right thing to do', and I'm proud that I did before my father passed in 1990.

February 2008 — February 2009 (1 year 1 month)
Founder and Group Moderator for the Knowledge Networking (KN) Group. Coordinate resources, schedule meetings, document projects and meetings, recruit and communicate with membership.
I established this group in 2008 to provide an ongoing discussion with focus on the personal and professional issues involved in collaborative participation with global teams. Some of the topics include networking tools, techniques and theory of managing our time and resources to maximize our productivity in the virtual workplace.
Originally established in the Ning network, Association of Virtual Worlds, and in Second Life, to conduct in-world Second Life (SL) meetings with a growing number of global network participants.
Later, I began to establish KN groups in other networks, like FaceBook, LinkedIn, and others, to expand the potential membership, to provide cross pollination between 2.0 and 3D users and to more fully explore various applications and communications within each.
(Public Company; CSC; Information Technology and Services industry)
April 1988 — July 1990 (2 years 4 months)
Programmer/Analyst and Senior Task Leader for Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC), under contract to the U.S. EPA in Dallas, Texas. Working closely with EPA personnel, I completed a Needs Analysis and then designed and wrote WORKPLAN, an integrated work planning and tracking system to provide long term planning, periodic tracking and performance appraisal for the EPA's Air, Pesticides & Toxics Division in Region 6. WORKPLAN was written in PRIME'S INFOBASIC programming language and INFORMATION, PRIME'S database management system, on the agency's PRIME 2755 computer, and later migrated to the agency's IBM 9000 in PL/1 (MVS/VSAM).
(Defense & Space industry)
April 1980 — April 1988 (8 years 1 month)
Computer programming, billing, customer service for Tracor Publications, commercial and financial printing division of Tracor, an aerospace electronics defense contractor, a wholly owned subsidiary of Westmark, Inc. in Austin, Texas. I worked with the
PRIME 2755 computer system in database management, job estimating, billing, and sales projection. I used Information Solutions' MAX Accounting System, which was enhanced and modified to the special needs of the company. From 1984 to
1988, I was involved in the development and integration of CAFE (Computer Aided Forecasting and Estimating), which was developed on the Prime as an integrated estimating system for the print industry. I also designed and wrote several sales tracking and projection modules to aid the marketing/sales staff in their efforts, as well as an integrated billing and invoicing module.

January 1974 — April 1980 (6 years 4 months)
Franchise Manager and Graphics Specialist for printing and copying service in Austin, Texas.
(Public Company; OMC; Marketing and Advertising industry)
September 1972 — January 1974 (1 year 5 months)
As a founding partner of GSD&M predecessor AdVantage Associates, I worked with GSD&M as a photographer for periodic assignments in the first few years of GSD&M.
(Marketing and Advertising industry)
June 1971 — September 1972 (1 year 4 months)
Members of the group Media 70 graduated from UT Austin in 1971, and formed AdVantage Associates as an advertising and marketing agency. After the usual struggle bringing youthful enthusiasm and talent to the highly competitive commercial world of advertising, the agency landed the 1972 political campaign of Senator Ralph Yarborough. Although the political campaign failed, it did succeed in establishing strong credibility for the group.
In September 1972, Advantage was reorganized by Steve Gurasich, Roy Spence, Jim Darelik, Tim McClure, and Judy Trabulsi to form the very the successful advertising agency, Gurasich, Spence, Darelik, & McClure (GSD&M and later Idea City).
(Media Production industry)
August 1968 — June 1971 (2 years 11 months)
Media 70 was a non-profit student group that produced multi-media presentations (slides, music, film, video) for the Freshman Summer Orientation Program, for the Texas Union and other campus organizations at University of Texas in Austin, from 1968 until 1971. The presentations were Immersive Media (wall of imagery and sound), of a type quite common now, but were extremely innovative in 1968. This experience, above all others, provided me with the background and drive that has fueled my career and research, even to the current time. I have recently reconnected with many of the talented folks involved in Media 70 and during my days at UT Austin, using the Web 2.0 tools now available.
(Chemicals industry)
June 1967 — August 1967 (3 months)
My father was a 30 year employee as a Hydrolyzer Operator (Soap Maker) in the Dallas Plant, and I worked during the summer of '67 and '68 as part of the Vacation Temporary program. I worked 2-3 weeks at a time in each of several departments - Crisco, Detergent, Shipping, Packaging, Cleanup, Maintenance. Some of the dirtiest and most interesting work I have ever done. This was a prime mover in my education and eventual interest in digital technology. I would do anything to never have to oil mop the top of vegetable oil storage tanks, load boxcars or clean cooling towers.
Information Security 2005 — 2008
I have really enjoyed the academic regimen that the coursework for the Information Assurance program has provided. In the distance learning curriculum at NDU I have written more in 2 years than in my previous college work in the '70's in a 4+ year program.
BA , Psychology, RTF, Chemistry , 1967 — 1971
UT Austin in the 60's and 70's started me on a fantastic journey, from which I have yet to return. I started deaf dumb and blind and stumbled my way through doors that I had no idea even existed. I recently reconnected with the folks I met there and then, and we found that we have all been on voyages of discovery.
