Marketing expert for professional services firms | SVP Marketing & Board Member, Mercer Capital
Greater Memphis Area
I currently serve as the Senior Vice President of Marketing of Mercer Capital. I am also a member of the firm’s board of directors, the only non-fee earner on the board.
Mercer Capital is an employee-owned business valuation and investment banking firm serving a national and international client base. We are one of the largest business valuation firms in the nation serving both private and public companies, as well as high net-worth families. In addition, we are the premier valuation firm for financial institutions. Services provided include valuation for financial reporting, gift & estate tax valuation, litigation support, corporate valuation, ESOP valuation, as well as transaction advisory services, among others. Visit www.mercercapital.com for more information..
My career began with Mercer Capital and I have been with the firm for over 20 years. I have helped the firm grow from two people (me and the owner) to one of the most respected firms in our profession.
I am responsible for the firm's marketing strategy and for overseeing all marketing functions of the firm, including corporate communications, web site development, speaking engagements, product development, newsletters, e-newsletters, direct marketing, web and live seminars, and business development, among others.
In addition to my marketing responsibilities, I led the firm in developing a strategic plan in 2007 and currently oversee the implementation of that strategic plan.
I publish and speak frequently on the topic of professional services marketing and leadership, with a specialty in firms providing business valuation services, and provide other professional service firms with marketing and product development advice.
For more detailed information, see the detail in the Experience section below.
I live in Memphis, Tennessee with my husband and two daughters.

2007 — Present (2 years )
In 2007, I joined the recently expanded board of directors - the only non fee-earner on the board. Also in 2007, I led the firm in the creation of a strategic plan that would assist us in enhancing our growth opportunities and help facilitate leadership transition. I currently oversee the implementation of that strategic plan.
In addition to these expanded responsibilities, I am responsible for the firm's marketing strategy and business development functions. I work closely with the firm's service groups in the development of their marketing and business development plans. In addition, I assist individual professionals who are interested in enhanced professional development.

1998 — 2007 (9 years )
As SVP of Marketing, I oversaw a small staff and worked closely with our fee-earners in the development of both individual and corporate marketing plans. The firm published five newsletters (both print and e-mail), self-published books, and had the most content-intensive website in our profession. Our professionals participated in 20 - 25 speaking engagements a year and published numerous articles in outside publications. In addition, we were active in direct mail, webcasts, tradeshows and other marketing activities.
In the early 2000s, our macro-environment changed resulting in a significant risk to the firm's earnings. I led an effort to reorganize internally to identify and pursue other service lines. We were successful in diversifying our service offerings over time, thereby lessening firm-wide risk and increasing opportunities for our professionals.

1991 — 1998 (7 years )
During these years as Director of Marketing, we formalized the marketing function of the firm. I led or supported all marketing activities. We were one of the first firms in our profession, maybe the first, with a website and embraced the power of internet communications. Marketing and business development was concentrated on newsletter communications, direct mail, website, personal calling, speaking, publishing in external publications, and e-newsletters, among others. I was responsible for each.
In addition, during this period we ventured into self-publishing books, with our first (hardback and 300+ pages) being released in 1997. I served as publisher for that project, coordinating all efforts and resources to bring the book to market and then publicized and sold it. So during this period, we moved solely from marketing professional services to product marketing.

1985 — 1991 (6 years )
During this period of Mercer Capital's history, we were small yet growing. As such, I wore many hats as is typical of a small firm. My marketing duties consisted of database management, newsletter layout, and direct mail among others (we didn't have a website then - I don't think anyone did!). I also served as the internal bookkeeper, research analyst, and clerical support. It was a fun and exciting time of observing and learning how a firm works and what is important to the top and bottom lines.
