Barbara Bray’s Summary
My focus is on finding strategies that engage learners and encourage creativity. My journey led me to create, My eCoach, an online learning environment for teachers and administrators. It started with my master's project (1996) on adult learners and assessment that automatically generated individual learning plans with a list of learning opportunities for users. My eCoach is built on a train-the-trainer model and building on the expertise of the people in the community. Our job is to provide the learning environment and to support the eCoaches so they are successful in managing and growing their community and helping their members meet their learning goals.
It started over ten years ago when I worked for several SF Bay area school districts with a team of coaches. We provided face-to-face workshops, on-site sessions and coaching support one-on-one. With over 49 schools and only four coaches, there just was not enough of us. That's when we realized we needed an online coaching support system. We just couldn't be on-site all the time. This way we could be there virtually. So we created My eCoach and am constantly changing it to meet the needs of the community. There are now over 7,500 members from almost every state in the US and over 15 countries.
