I teach courses in Criminology, Sociology of Law, and Political Sociology. My research interests include:
Urban Political Economy
Politics of Policing
Policing of Demonstrations
I have a new book published by NYU Press called: City of Disorder: How the Quality of Life Campaign Transformed New York Politics, www.cityofdisorder.com. I've also published in Urban Affairs Review, Contemporary Sociology, Policing and Society, Police Practice and Research, and Mobilization.
I've been quoted in The Washington Post, The Nation, The LA Times, The Boston Globe, NPR's Talk of the Nation, Air America Radio, USA Today, and The San Francisco Chronicle among many others.
I'm also on the Executive Council of the CUNY faculty and professional staff union, the PSC-CUNY.
I do consulting for NGO's and police departments on the policing of demonstrations and police-community relations.
