Design, fabrication, and characterization of complex, multilayer heterostructures of conjugated and non-conjugated polymers via molecular self-assembly

Authors: Augustine FouIt will be demonstrated that self-assembly from aqueous solution provides a unique ability to manipulate an arsenal of electroactive polymers into ultrathin multilayer films. The molecular level control enables the tuning of the supermolecular architecture of these multilayer assemblies to exhibit novel characteristics that cannot be achieved with the components individually -- e.g. tuning of the color of the light emitted, the efficiency of conversion of electricity to light, the conductivity of the multilayer assembly, and the stability of the assembly to external factors such as heat and humidity.
