Created national flood rate insurance maps (FIRMs) according to FEMA specifications using ArcGIS 8.3 geodatabases and 8.2 coverages. Projects involved digitizing, data conversion, spatial editing and attribution to create a digital data repository, as well as annotation and symbology to produce hard copy maps. Also supported the FEMA headquarters as a disaster reservist creating maps to assist relief efforts during hurricanes.

Determined land cover change adjacent to streams in the Chesapeake Bay watershed by examining digital orthophotos from different time periods. Created shapefiles in ArcView 3.1 showing land cover classes and calculated the change in area between these polygons. Compared the land cover changes to changes in vegetation indices derived from remote sensing data, and authored a report detailing the findings.

Examined old parcel maps in order to create a GIS shape file in ArcView that displayed the locations of all the buildings removed by this national park. Presented an oral report on findings and methodology. Created a paper map to be posted in the visitors center and an on-screen display with hot links to photographs.
