Professional counselor and explorer of situational influence on attitude.

Situational influence may be the most over-looked force on individual and group attitude, and by consequence, behavior. My practice of psychotherapy, counseling, and human service work with individuals, families, and groups through cognitive and experiential interventions has been a profound privilege. But while many people manage to discover better experiences in life, many continue to struggle. As my work led me into the world of complex systems affecting the field of mental health I recognized the power of situation was influential and sometimes at odds with people hoping to discover improved lives.
I remembered being very interested in my undergraduate social psychology course and I began once again to study this field.
Decades of social psychology research is largely ignored by media, education, psychology, psychiatry, and the general public - perhaps due to the tendency of people in western culture to presume they are always aware of their surroundings when, in fact, they are mostly not.
Major corporations and political organizations are learning to influence public behavior by designing the situation around its target population. A public blinded by their own certainty of independent decision-making predictably "choose" as designed by architects of the situation.
Social psychology continues to show the overwhelming power of situation over independent thinking. As corporate and political power consolidates, individuals have fewer choices while actually thinking they have more choices.
My passion is to increase awareness of situational forces to promote greater autonomy by becoming alert to context and within it more prudently interactive with our world.
