CEO and Co-founder, Econsultancy

I started out working in digital TV and multimedia production. I then worked at the Financial Times on arguably the first commercial application of Video on Demand (1996), before getting involved with FT.com in 1996.
I had a brief stint at Bloomberg TV, and then moved to Wheel to focus more on the web and other interactive digital channels, working for a range of large media and financial services clients on multi-platform digital projects (including Marks & Spencer, Abbey National, Channel 5, Autoglass etc.)
I lived through the dotcom boom and bust. My intial 'internet team' of three people grew to over 400 within just three years making us the largest UK digital agency by quite some distance. Following the bust the company shrank back down to 90 people within 6 months!
I'm author of "Web Project Management: Delivering successful commercial web sites" which was published in 2000 and also "Maintaining and Evolving Successful Commercial Websites: Managing Change, Content, Customer Relationships and Site Measurement" published in December 2002. They've sold over 40,000 copies and been translated into various languages (French, German, Korean etc.).
I also speak at numerous conferences as well as contribute to trade publications such as Marketing Week, Revolution, New Media Age, Internet Works etc. Recently I was voted 44th most influential person in Digital Marketing in the UK. Who are the other 43?!
Finally I am CEO and Co-founder of E-consultancy. We publish research and run events to help marketing and e-commerce professionals get better results from interactive channels. We've won Best Online Business Publisher and Best Editorial Team awards from the Association of Online Publishers.

January 1999 — Present (10 years 11 months)
I co-founded Econsultancy in 1999. We publish research and run events for UK marketing and e-business professionals. We have over 80,000+ members and many blue chip Corporate customers. I've also written 2 best-selling internet books over the last 10 years. I'm interested in talking to anyone else heavily involved in the internet industry. By the nature of our wide contacts there are all sorts of opportunities and ideas we can offer in return - we're approached by people looking for consultants, looking for funding etc. all the time.
(Privately Held; 201-500 employees; Internet industry)
1997 — 2001 (4 years )
I started as a Producer in the then 3-person strong Internet team. In the next 3 years the Internet became the entire focus for the agency which grew to over 400 people at its height. During that time I rose through Senior Producer, to Project Director, to Lead Strategist. I was involved with the launch of numerous multi-million pounds site launches for a range of large media, financial services, retail and other clients.
(Public Company; 501-1000 employees; Internet industry)
1996 — 1997 (1 year )
I began working on Veritas, one of the first commercial Video on Demand (VOD) projects in the UK. I then got invovled with FT.com (19996) and thus began my career shift from TV over to the internet. And now, with convergence and IPTV, it looks like some of that TV experience will come in handy again!
(Privately Held; 1-10 employees; Media Production industry)
1995 — 1996 (1 year )
I was a TV Producer at independent TV and multimedia production company Cambridge Film and Television. We carried out projects both for broadcast TV (Channel 4, Anglia Television etc.) as well as commercial video projects.
I was instrumental in bringing digital video editing and multimedia production capabilities into the company (Media 100, Avid etc). So began my interest in digital media...
