Connecting Young people (20-40) in Maine
Portland, Maine Area
Upon learning of other regional groups around the state that began surfacing over the last few years with shared goals in common with Realize!Maine, a number of young people began meeting in July, 2007 in Brunswick to discuss forming a regional group in Southern midcoast. The steering committee communicated with other groups to learn best practices in order to build a platform for Ascend that would not only meet the needs of our community and constituency but also provide stability for our committees of volunteers.
Ascend believes it can meet the needs of a growing population of young people (20-40) in the Southern midcoast Maine region, population 70,000. Whether looking for an evening out to meet new people in a networking focused environment, you're seeking community service opportunities or interested in taking a seminar on marketing your small business, Ascend is structured to help facilitate and communicate opportunities for young people.
With the 2011 closing of Brunswick Naval Air Station, there will be major changes and many new opportunities for the redevelopment of the area. Ascend will play a major part in introducing new people to the community, offering opportunities to those who will remain in the area in similar or different capacities than before the closure, and helping to ensure the continuing vitality of the region.
