Patent attorney at Royal Philips, secretary of Philips Open Source Advisory Board
Eindhoven Area, Netherlands
As IP counsel I help manage and exploit the Philips IP portfolio. The largest part of my job is to counsel Philips businesses in IP matters. The main focus is on advising on IP issues within the company, although I also am involved in negotiating IP license agreements with other companies.
Over the past four years I have written and deployed Philips-wide policies on open source usage and release of Philips software as open source. Currently I'm the secretary of Philips’ Open Source Advisory Board.
I've published a large number of articles on the subject of law and technology on my website http://www.iusmentis.com/
I regularly give lectures on IP law and open source inside and outside Philips. In 2004 I was a part-time IP law teacher at the Renmin and Tsinghua universities in Beijing, China.
I'm a member of the Dutch patent bar and the European patent bar. Also I'm a member of the Intellectual Property Owners Association’s Open Source Committee.
