Arlin Schaffel's Experience
Developer, Scrum Master, Operations Analyst
zu
Privately Held; 51-200 employees; Internet industry
July 2009 – March 2012 (2 years 9 months) Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada
zu is software development company specializing in mobile & website strategy, design and development. One of the largest interactive agencies in Western Canada, they are experts in online investor relations & social media.
Worked with medium sized teams to create interactive websites and online IR reports for many large corporations including Potashcorp, Cameco, Rogers & TransCanada.
Acted as Scrum Master and Operations Analyst for a small mobile development team focused on iOS appications; worked on projects for clients including Cold Stone Creamery, One Earth Farms, Viterra, MacKenzie Art Gallery & the Government of Saskatchewan.
zu allowed me to grow significantly within my career as a developer. I was able to have a hand in helping the company grow from a primarily waterfall website shop into the agile, test driven, mobile, web & web app powerhouse that it is today.
Sales Operations Analyst
IBM
Public Company; 10,001+ employees; IBM; Information Technology and Services industry
May 2007 – August 2009 (2 years 4 months) Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Responsible for managing sales reports forecasting Canadian market trends, benchmarking against historical data, and tracking current performance by brand and region; reports were used to communicate health of the business to the senior leadership team and drive targeted sales strategies.
My IBM experience was life changing. It has provided me with a large amount of industry insight, inspired me to drive for nothing but excellence and shown me that I can excel and adapt while working outside of my comfort zone.
Assistant Manager
Campus Cove
December 2002 – May 2007 (4 years 6 months) Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada
Computer administrator for networked gaming center (32 stations). Responsibilities included overseeing computer technical issues, stock ordering and employee scheduling.
The Cove gave me a great experience in getting things done with limited utilities. Ensuring that all computers were up to date, secure, connected and operating at a high capacity while adhering to a strict hardware budget was a unique challenge. Also, it fulfilled my childhood dream job of working at an arcade.
Staging Lane Coordinator
Saskatchewan International Raceway
January 2001 – May 2007 (6 years 5 months) Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada
Responsible for controlling and organizing race car traffic while aiding in event operation. Required a high level of communication in a noisy and fast paced environment.
Working for SIR has influenced my life in many ways. Most notably, it has taught me how to handle operating in stressful situations and revealed to me the hidden complexities within running large scale event & competitions.
