Antonino Faranda was born in 1968 from a family of entrepreneurs in Capo D’Orlando, Messina; the entrepreneurial origins in distribution sector of Faranda family date back to the Forties.
In 1984, when he was 16 years old, Antonino Faranda starts to work in the family’s commercial activity, finalized to fruit and vegetable distribution to small traders with excellent national and international brands.
His entrepreneurial story changes in 1991: he becomes in fact, despite himself, protagonist with his brother and other small merchants, of a "fight" against an illegal organization accused of extorting money. For this important demonstration of opposition against the racket, the group of entrepreneurs has received an award and has met the President of the Republic Carlo Azeglio Ciampi on 7th December 2000.
During those years Antonino Faranda learns about the experience of German distribution, with industrial giants that had developed a commercialization of no-brand products, today commonly defined “discount channel”; he wants to personalize his work, always in the same sector and in 1993 he moves to Rome.
The first "Italian-style discount" is opened in the Capital (at the end of 1993) with “TUO” brand name. Antonino Faranda changes his type of activity, before dedicated to wholesale and now dedicated to retail, and he constitutes a company named “Tuo Distribuzione”. 32 points of sale have been opened between 1993 and 1998, with almost 400 engagements. This intuition of the Italian-style discount gives extraordinary results!

Gruppo TUO of Antonino Faranda has distributive unities in 5 Italian regions and provides the CONSIP supply all over the national territory.
In 1999, Antonino Faranda acquired a company that produces and bottles mineral water, the “Santafiora”, that has its base in Monte San Savino, province of Arezzo; the production provides part of the points of sale managed by the group. Also in this case, Antonino Faranda understands the fundamental importance of company integration, and the potentiality of the products present in the points of sale of the Group.
The last format Antonino Faranda’s company has “In grande” brand name: shopping centres of 3.500/5.000 sq m, following the example of the American “warehouse” channel, where less importance is given to the superfluous. The first point of sale opened is in Rome, in Lucrezia Romana Street, with takings in 2006 of 25 million Euros.
Antonino Faranda’s entrepreneurial activity includes many non-profit activities, with donations, solidarity contributions, social and charity works for non-profit organizations: ONLUS, Croce Rossa Italiana, Telethon, Unicef, Save the children, Ass. Culturale Bimbo Lontano, Ass. “Tartallegra” – Germogli di vita, Ass. Italiana Mielolesi and Families of the Fallen Soldiers in Nassirya, VV.F. Romani per fondazione Villanueva – in favour of the family of those who died in the September 11th -, Comitato Aurora, Il Suono della Bontà, L’albero della Vita, Parrocchia San Giovanni in Cineto, Parrocchia di San Gelasio, Parrocchia San Magno, Associazione Piccola Famiglia.
Antonino Faranda is founding partner of Onlus "Macro Amici", the Association that supports cultural initiatives of Rome’s Contemporary Art Museum (MACRO). Antonino Faranda sustains also social activities like sports sponsorships (with the football team A.C Sansovino and the basket team Pierrel Orlandina).
2004 - Gruppo TUO achieved SA 8 0 0 0 : 2 0 0 1 : This certification, issued by SGS Italia, measures a company’s degree of ethical practices and social responsibility according to a system of standards based on the principles of the 11 conventions of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the UN convention on the Rights of the Child and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: TUO was one of the first companies in Italy’s large-scale distribution sector to achieve this.
2006 - Gruppo TUO achieved O H S A S 1 8 0 0 1 : This certification measures compliance with national and international regulations regarding workplace safety and the progressive improvement of risk prevention in the workplace. Gruppo TUO became the first and only company in the Italian large-scale distribution sector (300 in the world) to earn this certification from SGS Italia.
