(Public Company; 11-50 employees; Food & Beverages industry)
November 1979 — August 1981 (1 year 10 months)
My job was to ring up the customers' orders, take payment and correctly give back change, as well as to bag the food and give it to them. In the drive-thru, I merely took the customers' orders and prepared the beverages. Sometimes I would man the french-fries station. Occasionally I would be randomly chosen to sweep the dining area floor, as well as clean the tables. Another duty was to close, which included cleaning and sanitizing the food counter and the shake machine. Closing the facility meant staying at least a half hour to an hour until everybody was finished. I remember in those days I would come home late immediately after closing on a school night.

(Public Company; 1-10 employees; Food & Beverages industry)
June 1979 — August 1979 (3 months)
The owners loved me and promoted me to manager. One of the things I learned as manager is that not everybody loves you: I had to make a difficult decision to tell my subordinate to kindly not let her friends sit on the counter where we put food, thus making her mad at me. I was only 15. I also remember doing the duties of cleaning and sterilizing the food area and counters after closing.
(Public Company; 1-10 employees; Food & Beverages industry)
June 1978 — August 1978 (3 months)
My job was to #1) wait on the customers at the window and take their orders, then #2) take their payment for their orders, as well as counting back the change, and then #3) prepare the food, ice cream treats, and beverages and give it to the customers. I was 14 years old. The manager did not believe in my desire to worship God on Sundays, so when I chose to go to church and be taken off the schedule, I learned what being "taken off the schedule" meant. But later on the manager was fired by the owner the next year, and I got my job back, especially because the owner loved God and believed in nurturing my spiritual growth.
(Public Company; 501-1000 employees; Newspapers industry)
June 1973 — August 1973 (3 months)
I was only 10 years old when I had my first job of delivering the Journal News newspaper. I would walk door to door not only at the three large trailer parks across the street from my house, but also all the way down Dixie Highway and onto the side avenues. It was quite a task for a 10 year old, carrying two large bags of newspapers, not to mention it was also my job to fold the newspapers and put rubber bands around them, and then I'd throw them onto the porch of the houses. I had to leave because all that weight of the newspaper bags hung on my shoulders was hurting my knees.
