Main responsibilities include software development, data management, data processing and quality management throughout the agency. I lead on our ISO9001 accreditation and am also involved in the management of our ISO27001 accreditation.
I led the development of the agency's data quality assurance strategy and the design of the data collection/QA process. I led the development of the HESA data collection system (known as "Aardvark") and the "heidi" management information system. Heavily involved in the re-design of the HESA Student Record, the move to relational data structures and XML-based collection. I also led the project that developed student data standards (the MIAP Common Data Definitions) and continue to work in the data standards arena under the umbrella of the DCSF/BIS Information Standards Board.
Extensive liaison activities with government departments and agencies as well as with HE sector bodies and HE institutions at all levels. Have addressed many conferences and seminars in the UK and in Europe. I have also done some after-dinner speaking.
Consultancy activities for government departments/agencies in Bulgaria, Saudi Arabia and Oman. I have also acted as consultant for a UN Development Programme project that worked across the Middle-East.
