I work as an editor at O'Reilly & Associates, a highly respected
book publisher and technology information provider. An employee of the
company since 1992, I currently specialize in books on free software and
software engineering. My editorial output includes the first
books ever published commercially in the United States on Linux,
the 2001 title Peer-to-Peer (still the single work likely to be cited wherever its technologies are referred to), and the 2007 title Beautiful Code. My modest programming and system administration skills are mostly self-taught.
I'm also a member of Computer Professionals for Social
Responsibility and write often for the O'Reilly Network
(http://oreillynet.com/), as well as other publications on policy issues
related to the Internet and on trends affecting technical innovation
and its effects on society.
My Web site is http://www.praxagora.com/andyo/. The most interesting pages there are probably my work on community documentation (http://praxagora.com/community_documentation/), my list of articles (http://praxagora.com/andyo/professional/article.html) and some fiction (http://praxagora.com/andyo/fiction/).
I work at the O'Reilly office in Cambridge, Massachusetts, live nearby with my family, and worship at Temple Shir Tikvah in Winchester.
