The LDR program is brand new this year. Principal has selected four talented students to go through an intense, three year program. The program will allow us to:
*Get cross-functional experience in multiple business areas at The Principal
* Work on challenging projects under the guidance of senior-level mentors
* Broaden our knowledge of their financial products and services
* Network with high-performing colleagues
* Have regular contact with senior leaders and participate in a formal leadership curriculum
Once the program is successfully completed, Principal will work with us to determine our best fit in the company.
Development opportunities we'll experience include:
* Collaborating with business unit leaders in developing products
* Preparing investment portfolio reports and/or financial statements
* Helping develop marketing materials to reach clients
* Researching investment performance

As a summer intern, I spent a lot of my time coordinating different events that helped build relationships between The Principal and different financial advisors.
The highlight of my internship was being selected to give a presentation to senior executives as to why they should begin utilizing social networking sites as a means to recruit college students.

Being a Student Ambassador was great! I'd sit on student panels, give campus tours, host prospective students, and, most importantly, help kids make one of the most important decisions of their lives... Where to go to college.
2004 — 2008
In my spare time, I do marketing for a professional speaker, am involved in various philanthropic events, and run a side business that connects college students with "mini-internships" at small businesses. (www.minternships.com) I absolutely love to travel. During college I spent five months living in New Zealand and two months backpacking across Europe. Definitely two of the best things I've ever done.
