The Combined Studies program is qualified and approved by a board on a per-student basis relating to a series of aims. My program was made up from a balance of modules across International Relations, Politics, Sociology, History of Art, Film Studies, Communcations, Media and Culture. The aims of this were:
1. To delineate the semiotics and sociology of the mass market media.
2. To examine the changing power and role of media communication between the individual and global society.
3. To develop the knowledge and skills to underpin a career in media science.
This was complemented by a Minor in Education which made up 25% of the programme and a single module in Japanese Visual Arts.
My education at Brookes was also expanded by my work for Student Support Services. This included taking lecture notes in 200 lectures often across the fields of Biology, Business, Literature, History and Law at both Oxford Brookes and Ruskin College.
