Good at interpreting what is actually required and helping to bring that about. Working with people in a consensual way across disciplines.
From concept through simple elegant design of circuitry and software, To Design files parts list and test procedures that result in a good solution. And full lifetime support. Good feel for how electronics and printed circuit boards will actually behave. And how to ensure the circuit functions well
I have a low intervention people management style that is liked and productive. I endeavour to find out the requirement and the lessons from the past at the outset and continuing during development, and product life.
.
My experience includes; Analogue, digital and micro-controllers electronics, embedded C, and assembler.
Interface to sensors including; shaft encoders, temperature sensors, photo diodes, and linear image sensors that require fast data transfer into a micro-controller.
Low voltage and some high voltage switch mode and linear power supplies and power drivers. DC and stepper motors, and other electromechanical devices.
(Automotive industry)
August 2008 — May 2009 (10 months)
Design and Development of LED lighting for cars. This using switch mode power supplies, to meet Automotive industry standards for EMC voltage range, safety, and cost. Working with Mechanical Engineers to fit electronics into 3D design.
These standard are higher than CE marking require which I have worked to previously, but it turns out that my track record for achieving good margins for CE marking, means that I have found the challenge achievable.
This work is basic robust but elegant and simpler solutions - which I have and continue to enjoy meeting.
(Electrical/Electronic Manufacturing industry)
May 2008 — August 2008 (4 months)
Circuit Design, testing, and documentation of those.
(Electrical/Electronic Manufacturing industry)
October 1977 — December 2007 (30 years 3 months)
Optical Instrument Maker
Designing electronic solutions using
Software, to do the basic measurement system for refractometers and polarimeters.
+ electronics Self-scanned and CCD linear image sensors,
And photo diodes.
+ stepper motors and brushless motors.
+ Temperature controller including power supply (one of many subsystems to illustrate)
+ LED intensity control loop.
Working with assembly/production department technicians, Physicist, and Mechanical Design Engineer.
(Public Company; ARW; Semiconductors industry)
August 1975 — December 1977 (2 years 5 months)
Matching transistors by hfe,
Voltage testing transistor Vceo etc.
Designing and making test equipment for the above.
Pressing diodes thyristors into heatsinks.
got a good basic grounding in all passive semiconductors and reading data sheets.

I involve myself in community work I have been a school governor, and was a town councillor for 12 years eight of those as chair of a committee. Central in obtaining: A bus service, bus shelter, and a pedestrian crossing. Previously I was involved with my local Friends of the Earth group, and have experience of conducting public meetings. I have learnt how to respond to government consultation and to present a case at public inquiry. I used these skills when I became a town councillor subsequently. I enjoy photography and holidays.
