First of all, let’s establish what I’m not. I’m not your traditional copywriter. My degree is not in English, History, or Journalism. Nope. After earning my degree in Marketing I began a (successful) career in B2B sales where I learned first-hand prospect psychology. And it's this field experience that sets my writing apart.
You see, we had traditional “marketing” materials that included generic three-ring sales presentation binders, bland tri-fold brochures, and countless fliers with all the pie-charts and graphs your little heart could want.
The problem was - as soon as I walked out the door the beautiful (and I’m guessing pretty expensive) packet I had meticulously prepared usually ended up in the circular file. “What a waste of money,” I thought to myself. “There has to be a better way.”
So to boost my sales, I took initiative in the form of personalized sales letters, direct-mail campaigns and e-mail blasts (among other things). And it worked. Why? Because I connected with the client (even if it was an automated campaign).
I refused to use generic phrases like “we offer outstanding customer service.” I opted instead for an honest, open, not-too-salesy approach that heightened my credibility and had clients calling me. For example, after a week vacationing I returned to an awed co-worker (who had worked on my accounts while I was away) saying, “You closed more deals on vacation than I did all month! How did you do it?”
Over time I became burnt-out from the 90-hour work weeks, uncomfortable clothes, and endless travel. I searched my soul and said “what do I really love to do?”
Thus, I ventured out on my own on a mission to rid the world of corporate babble one concise sentence at a time. Through my experience I've discovered that most people are yearning for a voice that is natural and authentic. And it's this authenticity that has earned me a reputation of results-oriented copy that provides perfect balance of personality and professionalism.
