I am the founder and former publisher of Dragonfire (http://www.dfire.org), an online magazine of news and culture. Under my direction, we went from a one-person office to a staff of more than 25. Our traffic spiked from 4,000 unique weekly visitors in our first few issues to more than 80,000 uniques every day from around the world.
I established Dragonfire as a nonprofit and spent two years creating relationships with external stakeholders to ensure a properly-funded budget for my organization. Under my direction, everyone on the Dragonfire staff worked collaboratively: Editors developed stories alongside programmers, freelance journalists were cross-trained on audio production, staff reporters all learned how to code in Flash. I believe very strongly that the development of a converged media organization depends on cross-training as well as cooperation. (Dragonfire went dark in August 2007.)
