Falkirk, United Kingdom
Throughout my time as a phd student I have acted as a peer reviewer for research papers, presented my own research at international conferences, organised 2 conferences, been the postgraduate representative for the International Gothic Association and am also an associate member of the Global Gothic Research Group. I have also taught undergraduate students using a variety of methods, but I've been particularly successful with incorporating digital media into my lesson plans.
Outwith academia, I have been very active in social media and Web2.0. I run 2 blogs, one of which I transferred to self-hosting approx 1yr ago, and I have acted as consultant for the establishment of several others (including those for the Gothic Imagination website and the IGA postgraduate forum). I am extremely active on Twitter (4th in Scotland according to TwitterGrader: http://tinyurl.com/ce23x5), Flickr, Facebook and FriendFeed. I also have accounts with Plurk, Kwippy, Storytlr, YouTube, Blip and Last.fm.
I have excellent communication skills in both the spoken and written word, and I thrive in networking situations both online and off. I am looking for a position that would allow me to exercise these skills and which would match my interests in digital media, communication, education, research,
Networking - online & offline, social media, blogs, public speaking, presenting, tutoring/training, research in arts and media, writing, editing, textual analysis, conferencing - organising and participating, creation of learning materials, ideas & innovation.

I acted as a consultant during the company's production of learning materials, providing appropriate movie clips, images, art, literature etc. to supplement the core information delivered to students. The course itself was aimed at health professionals (doctors, nurses, midwives etc.) who wanted to advance their learning of homeopathic practices. My extensive knowledge of the arts and popular culture was drawn upon in order to facilitate the connection between the material and the various learning processes favoured by the many students.
The course itself has proved to be extremely successful and the material I contributed has now enhanced the learning experience of students in the UK and Japan.
Phd , Popular Literature , 2004 — 2009
My thesis title was Charting Habitus: Stephen King, the Author Protagonist and the Field of Literary Production and focused on King's interaction with the high/low divide as a producer of popular fiction. In particular, the research explored the way in which his concern with the status of popular literature becomes dramatized in his writing featuring the figure of the author-protagonist.
