Amanda is a writer and performer. She earns a living as an independent consultant, helping independent media companies and nonprofits strengthen their web content. Her clients have included NPR, PBS and the Paley Center for Media.
A columnist for PBS.org, where she writes about documentary storytelling and the web, Amanda is also at work on her first book, a memoir about her search for a meaningful adult life. She performs in Washington, DC and around the country with Washington Improv Theater, and debuted her one-woman show, Brushstrokes, in conjunction with the 2008 Capital Fringe Fest. She received rave reviews for her send-up of Powerpoint at Ignite DC 2009, which audience members called "absolutely hilarious," "genius," and "a brilliant lampooning" on Twitter.
Amanda has developed and presented workshops on digital storytelling for the Sundance Institute, the National Film Board of Canada, the American Press Institute, the Online News Association, the PBS/CPB Producers Academy and the PBS/NPR Interactive Summit.
Prior to launching her consulting practice in 2006, Ms. Hirsch worked in both creative and management capacities for leading media websites such as PBS.org and washingtonpost.com.
Amanda also runs Creative DC (creativedc.org), a popular blog that showcases and inspires creative living in Washington, DC.
