After a tenure at university (governance studies) and a short career as a teacher and a principal, having a connection with India since 1990, I have decided to settle down near Puducherry, South-India to start AMAIDI Volunteering in India to facilitate the coming and guidance of volunteers, interns and professionals who'd like to come for a shorter or longer period to stay, work and travel in India.

The main aim is to help our partners, being NGOs that work at the 'grassroots level' to support backward communities in rural and urban areas to uplift their lives, by sending experienced volunteers and interns, aligning them with the goals and aims of the NGO to fullfill their aims and objectives as well as those important for the volunteers and interns. Professionals are invited to render their services, to transfer knowledge and support the capacity and sustainable development of the host organization and the communities they serve.

Next to NGOs, AMAIDI partners with schools (from Pre-KG child care centers to university colleges), hospitals and social/care institutions for orphaned and (multiple handicapped) children and adults.

AMAIDI aims at having a presence in all Indian states, linking up with professional as well as starting host-organizations in the need for voluntary workers, capable to render proper guidance, accommodation, food and all that is needed to carry out the voluntary work, internship assignment or professional consultancy.

Within 2008 AMAIDI Volunteering in India, which is a registered partnership concern, will support the start of the AMAIDI Foundation, connected with sponsorship and charitable activities in India,

In 2008 in the Netherlands the Stichting AMAIDI Nederland ('AMAIDI Foundation Netherlands') will be founded, with the aim to inform the Dutch public about the possibilities of volunteering in India through AMAIDI.

Meeting people is the motto. Information about the community one visits before the start of the journey, makes these meetings meaningful.

AMAIDI Volunteering in India aspires to become the portal organization for all individuals and organizations that aspire to work with a temporary assignment - voluntary, as an intern or a professional - anywhere in India where needed.

AMAIDI Volunteering in India hosts a network of 50+ Indian partner organizations in the need of temporary help from (starting and experienced) volunteers, research trainees and/or consulting professionals.

AMAIDI is only charging the volunteer/intern or professional for its mediation, Indian organizations can become a member of the AMAIDI network free of costs.

AMAIDI will assess the situation 'in situ' as and when an Indian organization applies to become a member, so as to guarantee the coming volunteer, intern and/or professional a minimum quality in guidance, projectwork, accommodation and transportation.

As the tsunami rehabilitation activities have come to an end in India and FCF has been founded with the aim to help the victims of the tsunami in South-India, the foundation will be winded up coming July.

Instead the AMAIDI Foundation will be founded in July 2008, with the aim to provide information about the projects that are hosted by AMAIDI Volunteering in India, prepare volunteers and interns who have planned and are accepted to come and work in India through AMAIDI and to provide experience-expertise of ex-volunteers and interns who have been working in AMAIDI projects to whomever needs it.
